Special Qualities
Incorporeal (Ex) The shadow has no physical body. It can be harmed only by other incorporeal creatures, magic weapons or creatures that strike as magic weapons, and spells, spell-like abilities, or supernatural abilities. It has a 50% chance to ignore any damage from a corporeal source, except for force effects or attacks made with ghost touch weapons. It can pass through solid objects, but not force effects, at will. Its attacks ignore natural armor, armor, and shields, but deflection bonuses and force effects work normally against them. The shadow always moves silently and cannot be heard with Perception checks unless it wishes to be.
Strength Damage (Su) A shadow's touch deals 1d6 points of Strength damage to a living creature. This is a negative energy effect. A creature dies if this Strength damage equals or exceeds its actual Strength score.
Temporary Existence As a summoned creature, the shadow remains for only the duration of the Summon Undead spell (1 round/level). Unlike naturally occurring shadows, a summoned shadow cannot create spawn and returns to its home plane when destroyed or when the spell ends.
Summoned Creature Traits A summoned shadow cannot summon or otherwise conjure another creature, nor can it use any teleportation or planar travel abilities. It attacks the caster's opponents to the best of its ability. If the caster can communicate with the shadow, they can direct it not to attack, to attack particular enemies, or to perform other actions.
Description
This shadowy figure appears as a distorted humanoid silhouette that sways with an erratic, unsettling grace. Its edges blur and shift, as if the creature exists between dimensions. The shadow has no discernible features except for a vague outline suggesting a head and limbs, and occasionally what seem to be glowing points of malevolent awareness where eyes might be. It makes no sound as it moves, seeming to glide or float just above surfaces. The creature appears to be composed entirely of darkness, absorbing light rather than reflecting it. In bright light, it appears more solid and defined, while in dim light it can nearly disappear into existing shadows.
Summoning Notes
Warning: While under control for the duration of the summoning spell, shadows are malevolent undead that drain life force. They should be dismissed immediately after their purpose is fulfilled.
